Singapore (23 June 2004) - PSG Warfreakz, a group of Filipino expatriats walked away with the champion medal for the Singapore Paintball Novice Series (SPNS) 2008 Leg 2, which was held in Red Dynasty Paintball Park. A well deserved champion indeed where they have to battle 10 games before reaching the finals. The morning event was greeted by a mild rain that was lurking around the night before, however this did not dampen the mood of the participants as they have long anticipated for the home coming of SPNS Leg 2. After months of training, it is finally the day where they put their practices to the test. A double fold increase from SPNS Leg 1, SPNS Leg 2 welcomed the participation of 15 paintball teams. New to the competition were Carnage, PSG Bravo, PSG Charlie, Wargh! Birds, Red Shadows, Shinpu, Kamikaze and 20th Legion.
New to SPNS Leg 2 is the collaboration between Paintball Association (Singapore) PBAS and the Malaysian Marshals (MMs). This collaboration has indeed raised the standard of officiating in SPNS and provides an opportunity for Singapore Marshals to learn a thing or two from our neighbours. The introduction of PSG Charlie, an all female team from the Philippines, has certainly raised the public's eyebrow on their misconception of the paintball being a male dominant sport.
As the rain subsided, the wet ground becomes the perfect playground for paintball as participants slided their way through the muddy soil with most players perfecting the ideal paintball movement of sliding and dodging. After 8 gruelling qualification games, the top 8 teams can advanced into the 2nd round. Among the 8 newly established teams, 5 teams qualified for the 2nd round with PSG Warfreakz, which was the eventual champion, White Death and Death Mavericks. A well deserving note to Carnage which only lost 1 game during the qualification rounds and emerged as the chart leader.
As the competition rolled on, PSG Warfreakz clinched the Champion Title of SPNS Leg 2 by beating Red Shadows, who had to settle for the 2nd spot. At 3rd position was White Death.
The icing of the cake was given to Thomas Lee, a SIM 2nd year student who was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for SPNS Leg 2. The winner of the MVP award was selected through peer nomination from opposing teams.
SPNS Leg 2 concluded with an exciting exhibition match between Carnage and Red Shadows. During the process of the competition, footages of the match was captured by reporter from the Channel News Asia and photographed by representatives from The Straits Times. Talk about media coverage...
SPNS Leg 3 will be held on 12 October as "The Final Showdown"...

BTOed and not playing in tourney?
Recently had a discussion with folks from the SPNS committee...something that I have strong views about: People going through the BTO and eventually not taking part in tourneys. If I can remember correctly, the aim of the BTO is to ensure that paintball tournament can be conducted in a safe way in which players are competent to comprehend game rules and understand the safety aspects of the game. Before the BTO, there was not a single paintball tournament in Singapore, there were no rules governing paintball tournament and obviously there is also no way that the centre line can be removed. Painstaking efforts have been put in placed to review adopted rules, players checklist, meetings with the authorities, organizing BTO courses, etc.
Objective: To allow players to participate in paintball tournament alike to rules and regulations by tournaments held overseas.
For once, I would like to set this straight...BTO is for the purpose of allowing SPNS to promote paintball in Singapore in the most similar way as compared to how it is done overseas without the constraint of the centre line, which is a regulated by the SPF. Sir! I respect the rules, and understand that education and awareness is important. We will work with you to ensure that no rules and safety will be breached.
But of late, I also noticed that there has been an increase of people wanting to go through the BTO for the sake of going through the BTO (I could be assuming). But I cant help thinking that the objective of them going through the BTO is play in Field 3 without the line! This is not right...definitely not what we want when we first came up with the BTO. I would like to urge all to forget about playing tournament paintball if your aim is to get BTO-ed and never to appear again. You are not helping us, you are not helping yourself. You are not helping paintball in Singapore. You are not helping us to convince the authorities! Paintball dont grow in that way...understand the math?
However, having said this, I am not against people who have gone through BTO-ed but continue to have a physical presence in the paintball community, be crew for teams. Thats okay...you can still help in many other ways, refeering, event organizing, publicity....you need to know something in order to start somewhere right? But I am totally against people who have BTO-ed and then play the vanishing Houdini....hello? Anybody home?
I would like to suggest this to the committee:
1) Players should play at least twice before enrolling for BTO. How can we do that? Hmmm...I have no idea. Course fee vs time? Maybe...
2) Players must have a team before going through BTO. Recommendation must come from team captain to commit player to at least one leg of the tournament.
3) BTO players having missed 2 tournaments, must return for a refresher course (FREE) else have ID revoked.
4) Another extra practical session after the BTO.
Things will changed...

Asian Invitational Paintball Championship 2008
Good to know that Red Sevens is being recognize in this aspect. Yes, the team has been invited to participate in the Asian Invitational Paintball Championship 2008. It will be held in Desaru, with the rest of the other 14 Asia teams from the region. Surely an event not to be missed.
The fact that Red Sevens has been invited to participate in this event, is certainly comforting. This goes to show that paintball in Singapore is growing...slow but surely growing. We are less than a month away from SPNS Leg 2 and we already have a few changes as compared to SPNS Leg 1:
1) Change of house markers to Spyder Sonix. Smaller profile, more compact when playing.
2) 8 verbally committed teams (Redlords, PSG (2 teams), WarghNutz, Death Mavericks, Carnage, 20th Legion, Kamikaze, . We have 7 teams in the previous leg. We are hoping to get at least 10 teams for Leg 2.
3) Possibility of a full ladies team battling guys on the field.
4) Support from Singapore Sports Council.
5) Introduction of podding and MVP award.
In the area of paintball development, we are currently toying with the idea of organizing a regular paintball league, something similar to the English Premiere League. Perhaps, we will call it the Red Dynasty Paintball League (RDPL). Teams will play every weekends over 2 months. Each weekend plays about 3 games. This sort of occupy teams with regular training and upkeeping of fitness before the real thing....SPNS!
In RDPL, we are talking about no frill games...meaning no press release, no volunteers, no banners (ok, maybe one), no proshop, no sponsorship. Teams just come, show up...with a same or different line up (for talent scouting) and play. Team roaster can change after every 2 weeks. So no need to fully commit to the full league. Players just turn up (associated with a team, of course) and just play. No frills...
Cost? hmmmm...affordable...enjoyment? 100%

Paintballers are humans afterall...
Fearless on the field and charging at your opponents with great speed and agility. Running pass a stream of paintballs and into the bunker. But one thing remains unfold...paintballers are humans too. In the past few months, we have gotten to know each other so well that even the simplest creature does scare the shit out of paintballers. And here it goes: Kiko (snakes), Seburo (praying mantis), Jane (flying insects), Calgar (lizards)...WTF! Paintballers scare of creatures 10 times smaller than you??? Makes me wonder...For me? MUAHAHHAHAH....

Things are looking good...
Been 5 months...things are looking good for paintball in Singapore. With a regular community and paintball league behind it...things are certainly looking very good. In the next 2 months, we will TRY our best to take paintball to the next level. What I mean by best...is to 1) achieve a double figure for SPNS participating teams, 2) to maximise usage of our field thus hoping to increase a pool of paintballers and lastly 3) to get better markers into Singapore??? Perhaps, maybe, definitely...

Do what you are supposed to do...you can delegate but not last minute delegation! You just piss everyone off. You know where to get contact numbers, you know where to get registration forms, you know we are short of players, you know Ipoh is cancelled, you know you have lots of things to do, you know MPOC is important to Red Sevens!....so please dont fuck the team up!!! No last minute delegation! Plan early please! You are not alone now....you dont plan just for yourself, you plan for the team! You think of everyone who is in the team...you need to know your roster, you need to know if MPOC is still ongoing, you need to communicate and you need to know everything inside out!!!! Everything!
Given the job, just do a good one. If not a good one, do a satisfactory one! I have been helping and supporting but I cannot do it everytime! And to the rest of the Red Sevens!!! Wake up your ideas!!! Its so hard to get everyone to nod their head!!! And if you are not going to MPOC. Just keep us informed early....NO BEGGING NEEDED!!! Indicate early and you are a saviour, we can look for players, inform anything later than one week and you are a fucker! Wake up your ideas please!!! Everyone! You want to do a good job and play the game that you love then please give the committment!!!! I dont want to guess your thoughts!! I want you to tell us...
RED SEVENS please wake up your ideas! Still want to play as a team then commit. Dont want to play anymore...then just say! And Capt, you need to be in control more...tell us the plan!!! Not 5 days away from competition and scramble for help. Everyone is busy, everyone has their own committments, everyone has their role to play, everyone has more important things to do....I am not alone! I make scarifices and I hope you can too!!! MPOC is important to Red Sevens I say again. I am not going to let this team down by poor administration and poor committment.

Singapore Paintball Novice Series (SPNS) 2008
Yes, its coming...this Sunday, 30th March 08.
7 teams battling out on the paintball field, a battle of wits and skills. All these took us 3 months to build, 3 months to plan...and its less than 2 days away. Even before the start of SPNS, I can already list a few things that will take us to a better SPNS Leg 2!!! And here it goes:
1) Partnership with stake holders. Singapore Sports Council maybe...Singapore Police Force, NCC, Army, LAN Gaming community, media? Who knows?
2) Sponsorships - Need sponsors for prizes, banners, sound systems, door gifts, ambulance, food, apparels...Aim to get some of these so that we will not run in red as in SPNS leg 1. Haiz...what to do? Hope to just break even...last count, prizes is a few thousands already. DAMN! Can be better...
3) Volunteer groups. Calgar has done a good job in this...perhaps more in the next leg.
4) Publicity...Already we are planning for SPNS Leg 2!!! Posters, emailers, banners, forum posting.
5) Free paintball clinics for interested SPNS participants. More BTO courses...
6) Early registration!!! Sponsor early bird teams with a FREE training session of 100 paintballs!
7) Team loyalty...more offers for repeating teams.
8) more planned skirmish sessions amongst teams
Till then!!!

Things can only be better...
Last year this time, there was only 1 tournament paintball team in Singapore. Right now, there are 6 and growing...all thanks to the creator of this paintball community. You! Yes, its you!
From HotFuzz, Death Mavericks, Red Lords, PSG Warfreaks...more teams are emerging from the scene and all taking up paintball as a sport and not from the angle of recreational. With 10 years of paintball history...if this was done much earlier, I am sure we will breed one of the best paintballer in town...reason is simple, when Singapore started paintball, Malaysia barely knew its existence. But look what's happening right now? We are 5 years behind...and maybe more! Our neighbours are organizing the World Cup! And we only have a novice series! Laughing stock it is...but never too late. With the inclusion of the Singapore Paintball Novice Series 2008 (SPNS) in paintball calender, let us take pride in our every own paintball league, let us take some time off to reflect on the future of this sport, let us tell everyone that we mean business. A new beginning indeed...but we will be there some day.
These are the various key factors for this sport to grow in Singapore and we need your passion and leadership to make this happen:
1) Play paintball as a sport and not a recreational activity! Promote the game as a sport! And dont you ever talk about war, hurting people, injuries, violence...this not only spoils the development, it will only hinder the growth of the sport! No offence to anyone but if you want this sport to grow play it as a sport and dont wear army uniforms when playing! It just gives people the misconception. In Leg 2 of SPNS, all participants are to wear paintball jerseys or their own clothing. No BDUs, no uniforms, no camo! No, No, No!
2) People with passion. People who talks paintball and play paintball...Not people who have tried once or twice and tell people how passionate they are! People who are willing to commit their time to train (Red Lord is one of those)...People who wants to be part of the growth!
3) Dont complain about what you have...but complain about what you dont have! Work with us to make the changes! Not demand for it! It takes time for things to develop. Things dont happen overnight! Instead of complaining...assist us by making a difference. We sure need some talent in leading areas of development.
Brain dead...but there are so much more.

Top 16...yet again. But what's new?
Just returned from MPOC and straight into army uniform. Quite a tired transition I must say...but what the heck, at least the one thing that made me delighted over the weekend was the consistency that I saw in Red Sevens. 6 wins, 2 draws and 5 loses means that we are good enough for the top 16 spot out of 24 participating paintball teams... Nothing unusual as seen from our history but this time...things do differ a little. And here's why:
1) Lesser "sayoh" teams
Teams are getting better and better. Put a group of newbies into the team but equipped them with expensive markers. And viola! They are good or at least they "look" good. One of such teams...Nightm@R@! Teams are beginning to come on par with one another. Same faces, same level of play, same tactics. Well...good for the scene but definitely harder for newbies to take up this sport. A future Div4? Maybe...
2) "HARD"core teams
These are the teams who know that they are good enough on the other side of the pasture...but just choose to stay. Yes, you...shame on you. Unbeaten in all games? Move on and dont be a dry nose dirt. Hard to remove and definitely stinko in play...yawn...give others a chance. If you have a regular lineup and has been playing for more than 3 years. Move on to the next division...NOSE DIRT!
While there have been significant improvements in the organization of the game, for example the rapid filling to 4000 psi, a cha-cha step was enough for it to take one step back with spoilt choronographs. What a waste! And judging for Leg 1, we will be expecting the same kind of mood to the end of the year. So how different is this year's MPOC as compared to last year? I dont know. The spectator stand which leads to controversy? Maybe...
WDM! Time to wake up and start playing some serious paintball. Red Sevens got bashed! = Red Sevens bashed WDM = WDM got bashed badly by the rest!

Personal markers in Singapore?
I dont think so...
Things are not as easy as it seems. I have many people asking me...where can I buy a marker? Is it legal in Singapore? How can I bring my marker into Singapore? Answer is simple...no, no and no.
There is no such thing as personal marker in Singapore. Markers are classified as firearm under Singapore's regulations, as such there is no way that you can apply for your own licence to own one. At least not for the moment.
Dream on...
Pro-Paintball Cup...a new version of the Werdnahol Cup. New name, new management, new players. This year's event, will see the rise of Singapore's 2nd paintball team, the White Death Mavericks. Formed by a group of paintball enthusiats, these players know more than anybody else in the area of paintball strategy in Singapore. Pro-Paintball Cup? Here they come...

When is the training...
Waiting waiting waiting...MPOC is approaching and honestly we have not been training. Not sure how the games are going to be played without any training. Now that the bunkers are in...there should be no excuse! We need to train! No more struggling in the first round. Dont want to be in that position again.
Teams will be looking at us again. And if we want to do well, we need to train. If we do good, teams will look up to us and hopefully that can spur more teams to join us. If we are shit, we are in for deep trouble for we represent Singapore. We are paintball ambassadors!
I will be going for a run soon....very soon....cycling too...and maybe some swim...
We'll see....

MPOC 2008 for Red Sevens
Mixed feelings. But one thing for sure, we can only do better.
Our last event was WCA 2007, never really enjoyed myself. Eliminated on the 1st day, aching back, cancelled referee clinic and bad attitude. Full loads of shit! and unfair treatment. DAMN!
Brand new year, brand new start...new career, new job, new environment, new friends, new life, new captain, hey...everything is new! Lost something...and gain a lot more. TIME? I am not so sure but surely looking forward to change money for time. $4000+ per month gone! Loads of paintball shit, CERTAINLY! Haiz...
Ryan Stoll show us lights into 2008. New he might be...young he may seem. This young fine gentleman is going to make waves into MPOC. Let's hope he wants to play for us. MPOC Leg 1 here we come.
Training starts in Singapore's Biggest Paintball Park - RED DYNASTY!

The Paintball Family!
Just came back from JB. Was invited to a JB paintball gathering where all the JB paintballers and JB teams get together for a good night out, with food of course. A bonded community I must say and of course with a sight of envy, I hope this can be a scene for Singapore in the near future. Was telling Jane that we should do something similar... Maybe the 3rd Friday of every month, BBQ session for like minded people at Red Dynasty, food, watch paintball DVDs, talk about paintball, networking. And to top it off, a 10% discount off all merchandise that we are selling at Red Dynasty. Wait...who's paying for the food? Hmmmm...
Learn something new today...SUP'TONG! Sup'Air bunkers filled with "tongs". Yes, "tongs" not thongs! I know what you are thinking Arthur! Small Ben too...Its basically a patented invention by Aji Amin, plastic barrel with Sup'Air look aliked covers. Certainly a session of brainstorming.
Meet Azlan today, a fine young chap who introduced us to his field. Sounds exciting enough to try out one day.

Moi in action...
What are the requirements to join a paintball team?
Want to join a paintball team but unsure of what are the attributes to get you started? Answer is simple...ANYONE! As long as you have passion for the game, you are already taking the first step. Well yes, passionate about the game...that's easy but what's next?
1) Talk to people who has played paintball before. Not just played before but people who belongs to a paintball team and has played in tournament before. At this moment, I think Red Sevens is the only team. Muhahhaaha....Talk more, ask more and learn more. Experience speaks a lot...
2) Time Commitment - How much time do you want to set aside for paintball? Recreational? Tournament? Spend at least 2 - 4 hours a week training paintball. Play with like minded people and discuss about things that went right or things that went wrong and should be corrected. Play with better teams to get maximum exposure. What the sport needs right now, is someone who is able to spend time nuturing the sport and not people who wants to jump onto the bandwagon and play simply because his/her friends are playing.
3) Learn more about paintball - Go to YouTube, buy DVDs, buy magazines (Facefull and Action Games Pursuit can be found in big bookstores in Singapore). Download clips, go to forum, understand the growth of paintball, speak to people who works in paintball fields...Grab everything you can that is related to paintball. You have to love it to learn it! Learn the terms and jargons such as ASA, feedneck, loader, regulator, etc.
4) MONEY!!! - A lot of people tells me that paintball is an expensive sports. Well...I bet to differ. Of course paintball is unlike old timer sports such as basketball, soccer, netball, rugby where all you need is a ball, a field or a court and VIOLA! I would classified paintball into the same category as wakeboarding, skateboarding, sports dancing, archery, rifle shooting. You need not have a lot of money to play. All you need is to invest in paintball equipment and there is no rush in doing that. It took me at least 1 whole year to get all the needed barangs.
5) Equipment - Once you have decided and know more about the trend in paintball, it is time to do some investment. First thing to get, a paintball mask. Not any mask but a mask that you like and one that is durable. Get any other masks, you will end up getting more masks. Things that will follow after the intial purchase will be harness, pods, uniforms, boots, protective gears, markers (difficult but who knows), accessories.
I guessed, that's all for now. The rest is up to you.
Look out for the Red Sevens paintball clinic...

Paintball stuff
By end of this month, more paintball stuff will arrived in Singapore. We have Dye C7 jerseys and pants, gold, red and Proto blue. We have ordered 2 Flex 8 Camo for serious senario players, 2 NXe Tactical vest for scenario games, 2 Events White, 1 Vents Digi Camo, Torque loaders, green Grill V Force and more, more...
White Knights? White Death?
Rise of Singapore paintball is in the making. Coming soon is a new paintball team, whose name has yet been decided. These guys are serious about paintball and are already training regularly in Red Dynasty. In fact, these are some of the regular guys who have been training with Red Sevens, Ivan, Sean, Kev, Daryl...
In fact, "Elle" and myself had a taste of the new team. A 2 on 2 match with Sean and Ivan...not bad indeed. We had a draw...I was shot on the head by Sean in the first game and in the second game, I shot out Ivan by bunkering him...MUAHAHAHAHA.
Bunkers might be in next week or late this week...fingers crossed.
After the White Knight, there could be a 3rd team real soon...
